PROGRAMS - Dial-A-Dietitian Free Nutrition
Information Line
Dial-A-Dietitian is operated by Nutrition Link Services
Society & funded by the B.C. Ministry of Health
Dial-A-Dietitian operates a free nutrition information line
for British Columbians. Dial-A-Dietitian specializes in
easy-to-use nutrition information for self-care, based on
current scientific sources. Our registered
dietitians can provide brief nutrition consultation by phone.
If you need more in-depth counselling, they will guide you
to hospital outpatient dietitians, community nutritionists
or other nutrition services in your community. This service
does not replace the medical counsel of your doctor.
Translation services are available in 130 languages.
The purposes of the Dial-A-Dietitian free nutrition information
line are to:
To maintain
and strive to improve the nutritional status of the citizens
of British Columbia;
To dispense
verbal advice and information in areas of human nutrition,
clinical nutrition, food safety, food science and food and
nutrition in general without charge to the public, health
professionals, educators and others in British Columbia;
To provide
a nutritional information service by means of a free telecommunication
service;
To refer
inquires to other agencies, individuals and institutions
when appropriate;
To collect,
catalogue and preserve current data and documents in relation
to nutrition counselling;
To increase
awareness of nutritional issues and the Society's nutritional
advice service; and provide written information on nutrition
issues to health professionals and others when requested.
Our experienced, registered dietitians enjoy the daily challenge
of answering a wide variety of questions, and the opportunity
for interaction with a variety of health professionals,
the media, other agencies and the public.

Information on Diets for Diabetes and Heart Health
Many people who are newly diagnosed with diabetes, high
cholesterol or high blood pressure are relieved to find
answers to immediate questions about their special diets,
while they wait for in-depth counselling with a dietitian
at a hospital or diabetes education centre.
Improved Service for Allergy Concerns
Effective March 1, 2005, Dial-A-Dietitian added an Allergy
Dietitian to their team to answer questions about food allergies
and intolerances. The Allergy Dietitian is available to take your
call Wednesday to Friday.
