ABOUT US - Partnerships

Letter from CHN to DADNIS (now NutritionLink Services Society)::

The Canadian Health Network (CHN) is a nationally funded initiative in partnership with Health Canada. It is designed to improve access to trusted health information and to strengthen health promotion networks. While the CHN is Internet based, it will also pilot other modes of access to ensure that the CHN can benefit all Canadians. CHN will employ both the latest technology and more traditional modes of communication. With the support and contribution of Partner organizations from across the country, the CHN seeks to establish itself as the premier source for Canadians to access "health info you can trust", connecting Canadians to timely and credible health information, resources and organizations.

Through the CHN, the Canadian public and health intermediaries alike can find excellent resources from health information providers across Canada, including federal, provincial and territorial governments, non-governmental organizations, universities, and community-based organizations.
The CHN will offer a range of health information. While CHN will focus initially on how to lead a healthier life and prevent disease, other topic areas including self-care and how the health system is performing will be developed in the coming months. The CHN aims to profile the 'best of' resources by building on the strengths of organizations across the country to create a 'network of health information networks'.

CHN Operational Centre: Toronto. Operating Partners: The CHN will have two regional operating partners located in Eastern and Western Canada. Vancouver Public Library and B C Medical Library were chosen for Western Canada. The executive director wrote a letter of support for the VPL-BCML proposal upon their request. The concept included collaboration with affiliates that would provide expert knowledge and substantial resources for meeting the needs of special populations and on specific subjects. VPL-BCML identified DADNIS (now NutritionLink Services Society): as offering such expertise backed by strong resources.

Affiliate Partners: have content expertise in a health topic or target group area and will support the CHN by providing expert advice and assist in responding to any consumer and health intermediary inquiries. Dietitians of Canada was chosen for Healthy Eating category of CHN. The Healthy Eating section will be the first prototype developed by CHN. DAD is linked to the Dietitians of Canada Web site and the CHN Web site.

Associate Partner: CHN sent a letter to confirm DADNIS, now Nutrition Link Services Society, as an Associate Partner (August 1999). This resulted from a proposal sent in early 1999. Our organization's name will be featured on CHN's partners' page, which will act as a link to our Web site. Additionally, CHN users will be able to access our Web site resources from CHN's searchable database.
